Snow Canyon High School was established in 1994 and is accredited through AdvandED Accreditation. SCHS has earned a reputation for excellence in all areas of endeavor, from its standard-setting facility and unsurpassed community support, to its athletic dominance and academic achievement.
Community
St. George was settled in 1861 when Mormon leader Brigham Young sent a group of pioneers to the southwest corner of the Territory of Utah to grow cotton, wine grapes, and harvest silk for export to the Civil War-torn northern states. Today the cotton fields are gone, the wineries are closed and the silk industry has given way to modern, more prosperous businesses. The area is currently home to more than 75,000 people who enjoy a mild climate, scenic beauty, a family friendly atmosphere, and the influence of Dixie State University. The average income is approximately $45,000
Student Body
Snow Canyon High School has an enrollment of just under 1200 students which includes sophomores, juniors and seniors. The Student body is predominantly Caucasian with 25% fitting minority classifications. 20% of our students qualify for fee waivers.
Block Schedule
Snow Canyon participates on a four quarter /two semester system. Students enroll in ten different classes a semester and attend four classes a day on an A day /B day block schedule.
Class Rank
Our class rank is determined by students’ cumulative grade point averages starting with their freshman year. All subjects are included in the GPA with the exception of coursework graded on Pass/Fail basis. Regular coursework is graded on a 4.0 scale. We do not use a weighted GPA.
Graduation Requirements 30 Credits including:

96% of the students take the ACT test. The average ACT score is 20.2.

Activities
Snow Canyon participates in 3 A competitions in the following sports: Basketball, Football, Softball, Baseball, Volleyball, Tennis, Wrestling, Cross Country, Track, Swimming, Golf, Soccer and Rodeo. Students have the opportunity to participate in several clubs such as National Honor Society, Interact, Art League, Chess, Computer, French, German, Spanish, Outdoor, Skills USA, Spirit, Weightlifting, FBLA, FCCLA, Astronomy, DECA, and VICA. Many students are also involved in Debate, Drama, Band, Jazz Band, Choir, Madrigals, and Orchestra. Our students also compete in club Rugby.
Technical Classes
During their Junior and Senior year, students have the opportunity to take a variety of technical classes at the Dixie Applied Technology College. These classes are listed as College Vocational on their transcripts. Students may also take an assortment of technical classes taught at the SCHS campus. The following are some of the classes available Drafting/CAD, Millwork, Automotive, Accounting, and Graphics.
Future Plans
Approximately 60% of SCHS students attend 4 year colleges, 30% attend 2 year colleges and certificate programs, 3% enter the military, and 3% go to work.
